Detecting unstable plaque and its potential to rupture is critical for monitoring the pathology of atherosclerosis and assessing the risk for events such as myocardial infarction and stroke.
Based on its pioneering research in atherosclerosis, sPLA2 Activity Test is the company’s first product. This diagnostic blood test is an enzymatic assay for the determination of secreted phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) activity in human plasma and serum.

Data has been collated from more than 25,000 tests to support the role of sPLA2 activity in determining the risk of adverse cardiovascular events. Published clinical data obtained so far shows that testing for sPLA2 activity is a powerful biomarker for the presence of destabilized plaque, hence both a predictor of risk for coronary heart disease in the asymptomatic population (primary prevention), as well as a predictor of cardiac events in patients with coronary syndromes (secondary prevention).

| In the future, Aterovax aims to leverage its cardiovascular expertise to develop immunotherapeutic products that prevent atherosclerotic plaque formation and progression, thereby covering the continuum from cardiovascular disease diagnosis to treatment. |
